Making God's Eyes takes time and patience on everyone's part. Once they learn the technique, those who understand, will help others who were having trouble.
Directions: glue two popsicle sticks together, making a cross. Then cut various colored yarn pieces, about 5 feet long. Attach the yarn to the sticks. It helps if you label each stick 1,2,3,4. The basic pattern is: "over one, two, and under two; over two, three and under three; over three, four, and under four." You may add their artistic touch to the finished God's eye, by adding feathers at the end of each point.
Learning how to weave also takes lots of time and patience.
Directions:Make 21 square cardboard looms, one for each child. Cut slits about 1/2" apart, along all four sides. Measure out about 6 feet of yarn bundles, in different colors. The children choose any color yarn they want. You set up the loom with yarn going in and out in the same direction. Then they start weaving in and out in the opposite direction. They will love working on their square whenever they have a free moment. The goal is to maybe have a wall hanging at the end of the year!
Working on the many things connected with The Ox-Cart Man is definitely a learning experience for all! Enjoy the various projects. The children will enjoy the involvement!
