The Long-Eared Owl

A long-eared owl is a cunning owl. To defend its eggs it will limp as if it has a broken wing so that any predators think that it is an easy kill. The predators will stalk it. Toe long-eared owl will lead a predator away from the eggs to a place where the predator won't come back to the eggs. Then the long-eared owl will fly bnack to its eggs.

During the day, the long-eared owl hides itself with the color of its feathers and the pattern of its feathers. The color and feathers can match the tree bark where the owl is perched. When it is dark, the long-eared owl goes to do its hunting. When you hear a meow in the woods, it is not always a cat. It might be a long-eared owl because long-eared owls make cat sounds, whines, whistles, and screeching.

A Day in the Life of an Owl

The great gray owl woke up just as the sun started to set. He knew it was time to go hunting. He blinked his nictitating membrane just as he started to fly. A hundred yards away he spotted a baby crow. He started to swoop down on the baby crow just as the mom crow came back to her babies. She got a mob of crows which started to harass the owl. The owl flew towards the ground and started to fly four feet from the ground. He knew they would not swoop from there, because if they missed they would hit the ground. The owl flew away from the crows as fast as he could. The crows gave up the chase. He started to fly bavck to his nets when he saw a mouse scampering around. The owl swooped for it and killed it and brought it to a female to show he was a good hunter.
