Owls were thought as wise in many countries. Maybe it was because their eyes are just like human eyes, maybe because it's beak looks like a nose, or maybe it wasn't any of these.
In Asia they think an Owl is a smart witted trickster. But Native Americans thought an owl was a curious creature. In Haiti an owl is shy, and he thinks he is ugly. If you read an owl mythology, you will see that an owl's characteristics vary from culture to culture.
