Once the Great Horned Owl didn't have ear tufts. Every bird knew that if you flew up to and asked the sun would give you ear tufts. But no bird would dare try, they were too afraid. One day a Great Horned Owl decided to try to get ear tufts. All the other birds thought he was crazy! But they helped him pack anyhow. One bird on this day decided to go with him. This was the Eastern Screech Owl. Together they set off and together they climbed the wind currents. Eventually they stopped to rest on a cloud. But the cloud started to sink under their weight! They both hopped off and started flying again. Pretty soon they reached the moon. They rested there until morning and then set off again. Eventually they reached the sun.
"May we have some ear tufts?" They asked in unison.
"Yes you may." The sun answered as it gave out ear tufts.
"Thank you, O mighty one," the owls thanked.
They flew back down and showed their ear tufts proudly to the other birds.
